ŠLJEME PEAK HIKING (2455m)

Šljeme (Helmet) is the third highest peak of Durmitor massif. This is not really a peak like others. It is a 2 km long, high plateau with an average height of over 2400 m. There are several peaks on the plateau of Šljeme, and the most famous are the Istočni Vrh (2445 m) and Vrh Šljemena (2455 m).

Take a guided hike to Šljeme peak - 5,2 km long trail with 3.30 hours one way. This hiking trail is considered as intermediate, everyone with basic hiking experience and good psychical condition can participate as there are no dangerous sections along the route (except usual caution at the top). July, August, and September are the best months for hiking in Durmitor National Park.

HIKING TOURS IN DURMITOR NATIONAL PARK

ŠLJEME PEAK HIKING (2455m)

The hike starts from the cable car below Savin Kuk.
We reach the top by walking through the left side of the ski resort – known as the “clean side”. During our hike, we pass by the various snowdrifts, present in this area also during the summer period.
After a short break, the tour continues to the Eastern peak (2455 m above sea level) after which we descend to the top of Stožina (1908 m). This hiking tour offers outstanding sights and views that will leave you breathless, including Sedlo, Canyon Nevidio, mountain Vojnik, Mali and Veliki Međed, Bandijerna, and Bobotov Kuk.
After numerous ascents and descents, as well as a 900 m height difference during this tour we continue with an easy walk towards the summer pastures and the village of Virak.
From Virak we return to Žabljak by bus.
