Hiking is without a doubt one of the most popular outdoor activities in Durmitor National Park. The diverse terrain offers a wide range of hiking routes suited to various skill levels. You can reach many of the peaks in a single day due to the small territory of Zabljak and high starting altitude.
Belonging to the Dinaric Alps, Durmitor is a majestic limestone massif located in northern Montenegro. It is one of the country’s two UNESCO-protected national parks, constituting alpine glaciers, gushing rivers and a breathtaking mountain terrain. Bordered by the Tara River Canyon, which is the deepest canyon in Europe, the Durmitor National Park is made up of 40+ peaks over 2,000m above sea level, rising high above plateaus, alpine meadows and deep coniferous forests.
The highest peak, Bobotov Kuk, sits proudly at 2,523m above sea level, while glacial lakes, known locally as the ’mountain eyes’ of Durmitor overlooking the spectacular landscape. Black, Skrcko, Zminje and Jablan lake are among the most popular ones.
