Take a cruise on Piva lake, visit Piva monastery, try Plužine zipline and enjoy the best viewpoints!
Explore Piva Nature Park, a hidden gem in the north of Montenegro, still far from the usual tourist crowds. The Piva region was declared regional nature park in 2015. With its wild and untouched nature it is a paradise for hikers, mountain bikers, botanists and lovers of jeep safaris.
On this tour we will visit Piva monastery, one of the most important Orthodox monasteries in Montenegro as well as the picturesque town Plužine on the edge of Piva lake. We will cruise across the largest artificial lake in Montenegro, and enjoy its stunning natural surroundings. You will also be able to see the lake from above after we visit the best lookouts! Additional option for the brave ones is to take the zipline over the lake.
We start our drive to Plužine. Before we enter Plužine, we will make a stop to visit Piva monastery (or the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God). The monastery was built in the XVI century but in 1982 it was located at the spring of the River Piva, in order for it to be moved later to another location because of the construction of a dam and accumulation lake for the needs of hydro – electrical power station. The movement of the church lasted for about 12 years and what is characteristic for this monastery is that the old church has been transferred stone by stone (the old church was un-built, and from that same stone a new church in another place was built). The monastery owns a great treasury: Psalter of Djuradj Crnojevic from 1495, “omofor” of Savtije Sokolovic from 1568, personal belongings of Bajo Pivljanin – national hero, and many other things.
Hardly anyone who doesn't know, would think that Piva Lake is artificial. However, the lake, which covers an area of 12.5 square kilometers and reaches a length of 45 kilometers, was created in 1976. for the needs of the hydroelectric power plant "Piva" and the partitioning of the Piva canyon. We will take a relaxing 1.30h cruise in a traditional boat built by locals. The boat tour includes a swimming break and will surely leave you breathless after seeing the beautiful natural landscapes around you!
After the boat tour you will have free time (1 hour) to explore Plužine, stay at the beach or enjoy lunch in one of the local restaurants. The ones who would like to try zipline above Piva lake will be accompanied to the zipline location.
Before our departure, we will visit one of the best viewpoints of Piva Nature Park and have a photo break. From here, you will be able to see the stunning Piva Lake from a different perspective.
