Lake Skadar still remains off the beaten track for many visitors to Montenegro, but if you do visit it - you'll be richly rewarded. Skadar Lake is the largest lake at the Balkan Peninsula, with fresh water and one of the largest national parks in Montenegro. Arrival to Virpazar - the "center" of Skadar Lake National Park. We take a walk around Virpazar and will enjoy some free time. You have the additional opportunity to visit Besac Fortress, built by Turks in 1478. or have a coffee in one of the restaurants by the shore. Besac Fortress is a cultural and historical site of exceptional importance and one of the most attractive lookouts on Skadar Lake.
The trip heads to Skadar Lake, the biggest lake on Balkan peninsula, where we take a 3-hour boat ride to Kom Monastery. On the way to this XV century monastery we get the chance to explore the wild beauty of Skadar Lake, see fishing villages, lotus flower channels and much more! Skadar Lake is famous for being the last remaining breeding ground of the endangered Dalmatian Pelican and Pygmy Cormorant. It is also a key resting place for birds migrating from northern Europe to Africa. The Kom Monastery, built between 1415 and 1427, has some of the oldest frescoes in Montenegro.
After the boat tour it is time for some good food and wine. We head to a local family-run winery with a long wine-making tradition, to try local wines and Montenegrin cuisine. The wine tasting tour takes about 2 hours. You will learn about Montenegrin indigenous grape varieties, family traditions and life in this well known wine region. Departure to Budva.
