Circuit Around Korita – Panoramic Full-Day Tour

The Circuit Around Korita is Montenegro’s first fully marked panoramic route and one of the most popular full-day tours from Podgorica.

Starting in the capital, the 65-kilometer route winds through the mountainous region of Kuči and reaches the edge of the Cijevna Canyon, offering stunning natural scenery along the way. The route passes through areas shaped by diverse cultures and religions, providing a unique glimpse into Montenegro’s rich heritage. Along the journey, you will enjoy rocky pastures, dramatic canyon views, and the unspoiled beauty of the highlands.

The panoramic road climbs up to 1,400 meters above sea level and includes a short 30-minute hike to the spectacular viewpoint Grlo Sokolovo, so sturdy footwear is recommended for a safe and comfortable experience.

Overview of the tour

Part 1 - Monument to Novak Milošev

We begin our tour from Podgorica, heading towards Kučka Korita, with our first stop at the monument to Novak Milošev, erected in 2006. Novak Milošev Vujadinović is celebrated as one of Montenegro’s greatest heroes, recognized for his role in the Battle of Fundina (1876–1878) during the liberation wars. For his extraordinary bravery, he was honored by the Russian Emperor and received a diamond-encrusted sabre in Saint Petersburg, a symbol of his valor and lasting legacy. At the monument, you will have the chance to learn more about Montenegro’s rich history and the heroic stories of its people. The surrounding area offers panoramic views of the Kuči mountains, providing a perfect backdrop for photos. This stop sets the tone for the day, combining cultural insight with stunning natural scenery as we continue along the Circuit Around Korita.

Part 2 - Medun fortress

The tour continues to the mountainous area of Kuči. Before reaching Kučka korita we will take a short hike to the stunning Medun fort with spectacular views. The old town of Medun (Meteon), a higher fortification, located at the 13th kilometer northeast of Podgorica, originates from the ancient period. It was built first as a fortress, later as a city, between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. In front of the church of St. Archdeacon Stefan, built on the foundations of an older one, is the grave of Duke Marko Miljanov, a Montenegrin hero and writer. Below the fortification is the house of Marko Miljanov, today a very interesting museum. He was buried in the acropolis, in front of the small church.

Part 3 - Kučka korita

The Kučka Korita region covers approximately 300 square kilometers, located northeast of Podgorica and stretching along the border with Albania. This area forms a distinct geographical unit, framed by towering mountains and deep river valleys, offering dramatic and unspoiled landscapes. Kučka Korita is unique in the Balkans for its cultural and religious diversity, where Orthodox, Catholic, and Muslim communities have coexisted peacefully for centuries. Visitors to the region can experience not only its natural beauty but also its rich heritage, traditions, and harmonious way of life, making it a truly special destination.

Part 4 - Grlo Sokolovo lookout point

The highlight of this route is undoubtedly the hike to the Grlo Sokolovo viewpoint, an experience that is sure to leave you speechless. From this vantage point, you can admire the dramatic cliffs of the Cijevna River Canyon and the rugged peaks of the Prokletije Mountains. The hike is very easy and takes less than 30 minutes, making it accessible for most visitors. Historically, this path was used by military patrols, but today it offers a safe and breathtaking route to a viewpoint overlooking a canyon that plunges over 1,000 meters deep. The panoramic vistas here provide some of the most spectacular photo opportunities along the entire Circuit Around Korita.

Part 5 - More sightseeing points

On our way back to Podgorica, we will make a few additional stops for photos and sightseeing. One of the highlights is the village of Delaj, where you can admire the impressive 10-meter high cross built by locals in 2010, with a statue of Jesus Christ beneath it. On clear, sunny days, this viewpoint offers panoramic vistas of Lake Skadar, Rumija Mountain, and even parts of Albania. From here, you can also enjoy stunning views of the Cijevna Canyon, making it a perfect spot to capture lasting memories of the Circuit Around Korita tour.
