ŠKRČKA LAKES HIKING (1730m)

Škrčka Lakes are one of Durmitor’s most spectacular hidden gems, located deep in the heart of Durmitor National Park at an altitude of 1,700–1,730 m. This hiking tour is perfect for nature lovers who want to explore a more remote side of Durmitor and experience landscapes that feel untouched and truly wild. Because of their location and the surrounding terrain, the Škrčka Lakes are considered among the highest and most inaccessible lakes in the park, which makes the journey even more special.

Often called the “Green Lakes” due to their unique greenish color, the Big and Small Škrčko Lakes are surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks on three sides, creating an incredible natural amphitheater. One of the most impressive views comes from the fact that the lakes lie beneath Bobotov Kuk, the highest peak in Montenegro, giving the entire area a powerful alpine atmosphere. The combination of glacial water, high ridges, and sharp mountain silhouettes makes this hike one of the most memorable experiences in Durmitor.

During the tour, we start from Dobri Do and hike through beautiful highland scenery before reaching the ridge Škrčko Ždrijelo (2,100 m), one of the most panoramic parts of the route. From there, we descend toward the lakes and the mountain lodge near Big Škrčko Lake, enjoying constant views of rolling knolls, rocky slopes, and towering peaks. Hidden between the mountains, these glacial lakes will leave you speechless and show you why Durmitor is one of the most breathtaking hiking destinations in Montenegro.
