Discover Piva Lake & Nature Park

Embark on an unforgettable journey through Piva Nature Park, a hidden gem in northern Montenegro, far from the usual tourist crowds. Declared a regional nature park in 2015, this area boasts wild, untouched landscapes, making it a paradise for hikers, mountain bikers, botanists, and lovers of off-road adventures.

During this tour, we will visit the historic Piva Monastery, one of Montenegro’s most important Orthodox sites, and explore the charming town of Plužine on the shores of Piva Lake. Enjoy a scenic cruise across Montenegro’s largest artificial lake, surrounded by dramatic mountains and pristine nature. From panoramic lookouts, you’ll admire breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding peaks, and for those seeking extra thrill, there is the option to experience the exhilarating Plužine zipline above the water. This tour perfectly combines culture, nature, and adventure for an unforgettable day.

Part 1 - Piva monastery

We start our drive to Plužine. Before we enter Plužine, we will make a stop to visit Piva monastery (or the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God). The monastery was built in the XVI century but in 1982. it was located at the spring of the River Piva, in order for it to be moved later to another location because of the construction of a dam and accumulation lake for the needs of hydro – electrical power station. The movement of the church lasted for about 12 years and what is characteristic for this monastery is that the old church has been transferred stone by stone (the old church was un-built, and from that same stone a new church in another place was built). The monastery owns a great treasury: Psalter of Đurađ Crnojević from 1495, “omofor” of Savatije Sokolović from 1568, personal belongings of Bajo Pivljanin – national hero, and many other things.

Part 2 - Cruising on Lake Piva

Hardly anyone who doesn’t know would guess that Piva Lake is artificial. Covering an area of 12.5 square kilometers and stretching 45 kilometers in length, the lake was created in 1976 to serve the Piva hydroelectric power plant and to dam the Piva Canyon.

We will enjoy a relaxing 1.5-hour cruise on a traditional boat handcrafted by local artisans. The tour includes a refreshing swimming break and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and untouched nature. Along the way, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos of the dramatic cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and peaceful forested shores. This serene boat ride is a perfect way to connect with the region’s natural beauty and enjoy a slower, more reflective pace. By the end of the cruise, the combination of adventure and tranquility will leave you truly inspired.

For those seeking an extra thrill, participants who wish to experience the zipline over Piva Lake will be accompanied to the zipline location by our guide. This optional adventure offers breathtaking aerial views of the lake and surrounding mountains, adding an unforgettable adrenaline boost to your day.
