General info

Prutaš (2,393 m) is one of the most iconic and most photographed peaks in Durmitor National Park, famous for its wide-open panoramas and dramatic rocky landscape. Often called the “King of Durmitor viewpoints”, this hike is a perfect choice for anyone who wants a true mountain adventure with unforgettable scenery, without extremely technical terrain. The summit rewards you with some of the best views in the entire park, making it one of the top hiking experiences in northern Montenegro.

The tour starts from the southern side of Durmitor, following the route via Škrčko Ždrijelo (2,114 m), considered the easiest and most scenic access to Prutaš. Along the way, you’ll hike through high alpine terrain surrounded by sharp ridges and open mountain slopes, with constant photo opportunities. Prutaš got its name from its unique cliffs called “Prutovi” (“twigs”), giving the mountain a recognizable structure that stands out from other Durmitor peaks.

One of the highlights of this hike is the view of Durmitor’s main rocky wall known as “Soa Nebeska” (“Altar of the Sky”) — a massive 2 km long cliff face rising almost 800 meters above the landscape. From here you can admire three legendary peaks: Bezimeni Vrh (2,487 m), Bobotov Kuk (2,523 m) and Djevojka/Soa (2,440 m). This tour is a must for hikers who want to experience Durmitor at its most impressive and wild, and return with memories that last a lifetime.
